Week two – Sun 13 June: Further information and details about how to make lumen prints and cyanotypes. Week one – Sun 6 June: Introductions, presentation into techniques, materials and recipes for chemistry required, artists to research for ideas and inspiration, and Wendy’s work. The ability to make paper references / keepsakes.Knowledge of the historical context of these techniques.Develop other ways to use the technique (i.e: Wet Cyanotypes).To explore cameraless photography and its image making potential.Learn how light sensitive paper is made and the application for use.To understand the action of UV light on silver and other UV sensitive chemicals.This workshop is suitable for beginners and more experienced photographers alike, you don’t need any previous experience, or access to specialised equipment or cameras. Full details and guidance will be provided as part of the workshop. You will need to buy photographic paper and small amounts of chemical components to make cyanotype paper which should not be expensive or difficult to find. It is an effective way of introducing newcomers to photography and to alternative printing techniques. The result gives a continuous-tone image of Prussian Blue or cyan. This process uses a combination of two chemicals, which are combined in equal parts. This camera-less process uses black and white photographic paper, subject matter that usually (but not always) consists of organic material like leaves and flowers, and of course, the most important element – The Sun.
